I am attaching a couple of photos from the recent major Aurora opening:
1. What AU CW signals look like on an Icom IC-7300 with a Ukrainian 144 MHz transverter, using a small 144 MHz beam aimed NorthWest. The hissy raspy AU CW signals look fuzzy and fat compared to normal CW signals.
2. The visible Aurora in FN43eu.

Well, the band conditions were noisy with lots of static crashes Friday and Saturday night.
Sunday early evening, at the end of the contest, I wasn’t hearing crashes! Was running QRP into the ‘U’ shaped full length dipole. Not hearing as great as it should, Going to ask the neighbors to stretch it out across the upper yard next winter.

The NEQP is a fun contest. We give thanks to Tom K1KI, Group members and the YCCC home team and all who participated and supported the operations this year. There are several score posts on 3830 supporting CTRI. It’s a little early but appears we have our net ready to catch the club plaque again this year. Thank you! If you are interested in extreme NEQP mobile operation check out Gerry W1VE’s post on 3830.
For W1DX/m below are the statistics for our 2 day, 12 county rover tour. Note that we did only 1 SSB contact. We sensed activity was down from last year. The first day particularly was a slow one. We wondered where was everybody? Watching the Kentucky Derby?
On a down side. Murphy did find us. A few computer lockups occured. He apparently is enjoying his welcoming home in Windows 10.

CQ WPX SSB Contest
Had not planned to operate, but heard the high activity and decided to operate Friday evening and then some of Saturday – S&P only. Went skiing on Sunday.
Excellent band conditions with big pileups! By accident I worked the Sable Island crew CY0S that traveled there to be QRV for this contest on 40m.

Thanks for the Mic Check W1XX. Think I found the hint to getting more Highs from the radio after two tries.

The morning after report …
I managed to put about 6 hours of BIC time in 3 different spurts and was really impressed with the conditions. It reminded me of “the good old days” (whatever that means). Here’s my results…

Got on just to try working 3Y0J on RTTY. No luck. Made a few Qs while looking and kept the club call in the mix. Remember, at least 3 log submissions needed to get the club listed in the contest results!
See in the CW DX coming up.
